During your trip to Göcek, one of the places we recommend for a journey back in time is Gemile Island. Also known as Saint Nicholas, the island's history dates back to the 4th century. On the island, visitors can find the remains of four churches, burial structures, and traces of medieval settlements. Some civil architecture, houses, and cisterns are even partially visible underwater. Archaeological findings suggest that the island was inhabited between the 5th and 7th centuries and was abandoned after Arab raids in the 7th century.
