Kaymaklı Underground City, one of the largest and most impressive underground settlements in Cappadocia, stands alongside Derinkuyu as one of the region’s most remarkable structures. Designed to accommodate around 5,000 people, this vast underground city consists of eight levels. Located just 20 kilometers from Nevşehir city center in the town of Kaymaklı, four of its eight floors are currently open to visitors. It is also believed that Kaymaklı is connected to Derinkuyu Underground City by a tunnel approximately 10 kilometers long.

Each level contains churches, worship areas, living quarters, wine cellars, and large kitchens. Like other underground cities in the region, Kaymaklı is equipped with an advanced ventilation system, ensuring fresh air circulates throughout the tunnels. You can explore this fascinating site on guided tours and combine your visit with Derinkuyu to gain deeper insight into Cappadocia’s underground way of life.
