Göreme Open-Air Museum, one of Nevşehir’s most visited attractions, is located in the town of Göreme in Ürgüp, just 16 kilometers from the city center. Welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985, gaining international recognition.

Featuring rock-carved churches, monasteries, chapels, and living quarters, the museum is like an open-air archive for archaeology and history enthusiasts. Among its highlights are the Monks’ Monastery, which served as a religious education center in the 4th century, St. Basil’s Chapel, Apple Church, St. Barbara Church, St. Catherine’s Chapel, and Tokalı Church. The towering fairy chimneys within the museum grounds also provide spectacular photo opportunities.
